Reading and Prayer – Tuesday, April 5

Tuesday April 5th:

Today begins a set of readings on a prayer of King David.

1 Chronicles 29:10-12

10 Then David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly:

“O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever! 11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. 12 Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.

O Lord, you are our God, and the God of all who have gone before us. You deserve all praise, all glory, and all devotion. There is no limit to your power and majesty, and everything that we can see, and so many things that we cannot, are yours alone.

Help us to remember this, and not to become caught up in a world that tries to take what is yours for its own gain. Help us to make good use of all that you have given to us, and do everything for your glory. It all comes from you, and it will all return to you. It is you who are in control, and we are grateful that you include us in your good plans. Help us to keep our focus on you today, as we go into a world that has forgotten who you are.
