Today continues a set of readings on a prayer of King David.
1 Chronicles 29:16-17
16 “O Lord our God, even this material we have gathered to build a Temple to honor your holy name comes from you! It all belongs to you! 17 I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously.
Father, you are our God, and yet we are also your children. You have chosen us, and you have chosen to give us not just gifts and abilities, but also physical things. Help us not to become so tied to things that we miss out on you. Help us to recognise that though we may have “worked” for what we have, that truly, it comes from you.
May we be able to look back on our day, and say with David, “I have done all this with good motives”. Let everything that we do be to serve you and serve your people. Not to store up “treasures” that will fade quickly and do not really have any worth. Fill us with your Spirit so that we may be able to accomplish your will in the world. To you be all glory, forever!
