Daily Reading and Prayer: Sunday, June 14

Today’s reading and prayer are from the Zion Sunday Worship Service.

1 John 1:1-7
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete. This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you:
God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Each time we pray, we thank you, Lord God,
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We thank you for your love of all people,
and for the people you have given us to love.
We thank you for the hope which is kept safe for us in heaven,
which nothing can take away.
And we thank you for filling our hearts with the Good News,
of your love in Christ Jesus.

We thank you that this message of your love is continuing
to spread throughout the world,
Even as it has taken root among us, bringing hope and life.
From the first day we learned of your love and kindness,
O Lord, our lives have been changed, And for the better.
Help us to work faithfully together for you,
that all may know of your love.

We give you thanks, Father,
for your continued support of each one of us.
Help us to support one another and ourselves
through praying each day to you.
We pray that you would show us clearly
what you would have us do,
How you would have us live.
Save us from doing nothing, O Lord;
Save us from the risk-free life, and the always easiest path.
Challenge us, each and every day, to do what we can,
where we are, with what we have,
And so bring honour and glory to your name,
Purpose to our lives, And help to those in need.
We pray for wisdom and understanding in the midst of all of life.
Help us to live the kind of life which honours you,
Seeking always to do that which is pleasing in your sight.
May we come to know you better, each and every day,
And may your glorious power make us patient
and strong enough to endure anything,
Bringing true and lasting joy to our lives.

May we be grateful for the opportunity and privilege
of living for you, Our God;
For giving us purpose and a life of true and lasting value.
Through your love in our lives,
through your forgiveness and freedom,
May our lives ever grow and be enriched in all ways,
For the glory of your Kingdom.

And now, Father, we pray for others.
Even as you have rescued us,
so rescue all from the power of darkness
which so pervades our world.
Bring all who are in need into the light of your love, we pray.

We name the needs of ourselves and others before you now…

We thank you that the message of your love is continuing
to spread throughout the world, even as it has spread among us,
bringing the light of hope and life.
Help us to work faithfully together for you,
that all may know the light of your love.
We pray together as you have taught us, saying…

Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory, forever and ever.
