Reading and Prayer – Sunday, January 24

Romans 8:26-28

the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Dear God, so often, we do not know how we should pray, or what we should pray for, or who. So many needs are in our world; so many thoughts leap to our minds. We pray for your help, that the Holy Spirit will guide our prayers, so that, whether with words or with tears, we would pray from our hearts, according to your heart, and the needs of others.

Above all, we pray that no matter what happens in our lives and in our world, you would manage to somehow bring good through it, to draw us and others closer to you. Through tragedy, bring help; through suffering, bring faithful endurance; through grief, bring comfort, we pray. Above all, in and through all things, bring all the world to you, that everyone might know your hope, peace, joy and love; that everyone might come to know Jesus. Amen.
