Reading and Prayer – October 24

Reading:
Mark 4:35-41 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.  A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”  He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Prayer:

Father, we come before you knowing that you have the power to accomplish anything. We know that you love us, and desire what is truly best for each person that you have created. We come here today to ask you to intercede for us, and for the many people away from here who need your help. We ask for your healing for all who are struggling, physically or mentally. For your protection on all who are in danger from war, disease, or abuse. For your comfort love to those who do not feel loved, and those who are going through difficulties. We ask for an outpouring of your spirit in this community, this city, this province, this country, and this whole world. We pray as Jesus did that your kingdom would come and your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven. Amen.
