Reading and Prayer – June 9

Reading: 1 Peter 1:22-25

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.

Prayer – Another prayer I offered as Moderator of the 2016 General Assembly:

Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

In a world of darkness, Father, your word been a light to our path.

In a world of confusion, your word has brought order and direction to our lives.

In a world of despair, your word has brought us hope.

In a world of fleeting values, your word has brought us an unchanging truth.

In a world of sorrow, your word has brought us joy.

In a world of bad news, your word is the good news of love.

In a world of death, your word has brought us to life eternal.

Thanks be to you, O Lord, for your word which illumines our lives with the light of Christ, the Living Word.

Speak to us through your Word this day, with clarity and power, we pray.

Through the many words we hear, by the illumination of the Holy Spirit,

may it be your words which ring loud and true in our ears.

We offer you our praises, as we meet in your name,

To worshipfully do the work that is set before us.

Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity and love of the Holy Spirit,

all honour and glory are yours, almighty God, now and forever. Amen.
