Reading and Prayer – June 10

Reading: 1 Peter 2:1-3

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Prayer – Another prayer I offered as Moderator of the 2016 General Assembly:

Father, you are the one true God

whom to know is life eternal, whom to serve is joy and peace.

You have created all that is.

The whole universe testifies to the majesty and power of you, its Maker.

We praise you, Father, for you have come to us in Jesus Christ, your Son,

bringing salvation through a new covenant entered by faith.

We praise you, Father, for you continue to come to us by the Holy Spirit,

Your presence in the world, and our comfort and source of faith.

We praise you, Father, for you continue to come to us through the Scriptures.

The Old and New Testaments witness to your mighty acts.

Through them, you reveal your holy love, and lead us to Jesus Christ.

And so, with the one church universal,

we praise you as one God, eternal Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

three in one, one in three, equal in power and glory.

You, O God, are the Father to whom we come,

the Son through whom we come, the Spirit by whom we come.

We worship you, almighty God, source of all life.

With thanks we acknowledge your wisdom, power, faithfulness, and love.

Be with us, move among us, speak through us

In our deliberations this day,

As we seek to both discern and do your will.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be! Amen.
