Reading and Prayer – December 28

Luke 2:36-38

There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

Father, Anna’s was not an easy life, lived in loneliness for many years. But she found her comfort in you, and with a dedication and faith that astounds us. We thank you for her life of prayer; and we thank you for those who pray for us. Help us to never underestimate the power of prayer, and to cherish the prayers of others on our behalf. Remind us that despite our age and our situation, the power of faithful prayer is undiminished by years or circumstance. Amen.
