Reading and Prayer: December 20

December 20: Luke 2:15-16

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.

The Fourth Sunday in Advent – Love: Matthew 22:36-39

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Prayer: Dear God, as the shepherds gazed with wonder at the embodiment of your love, in the miracle of the child in the manger, so help us see in Jesus, in his story, words and deeds, the true meaning of your love, and so help us as your children live that love in our world. Amen.
