Children in the Bible: King Josiah

2 Chronicles 34:1-3

Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.  He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left. In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David.

Heavenly Father, you delight in those who seek you. Josiah, the child-king, followed in the ways of his father, David. He destroyed the high places, Asherah poles and idols. When the Book of the Covenant was discovered in the temple, he gathered all the people of Jerusalem and read aloud the words of the Book of the Covenant. Lord, help us to do away with the idols in our lives. Help us to rediscover your Word and will for our lives. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
