Selected Verses from Proverbs 15
1 A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
12 Mockers resent correction,
so they avoid the wise.
13 A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit.
17 Better a small serving of vegetables with love
than a fattened calf with hatred.
18 A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict,
but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.
20 A wise son brings joy to his father,
but a foolish man despises his mother.
23 A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—
and how good is a timely word!
30 Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones.
Dear Lord, I give you my hands to do your work; I give you my feet to go your way; I give you my eyes to see as you see; I give you my tongue to speak your words; I give you my mind that you may think in me; I give you my spirit that you may pray in me. Above all, I give you my heart that you may love in me. I give you my whole self, Lord, that you may grow in me, so that it is you who lives, works and prays in me.
Finally, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, let me think about these things.
What I have learned and received, let me do; and the God of peace be with us all. Amen.
