Daily Reading and Prayer submitted by Eleanor MacDonald

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23 has always been important to me. It was the first psalm I memorized as a child and it was and still is a comfort to recall and think about those words, in text or in music.

It reminds me I am not ever alone, no matter what is happening in my world or beyond. God is in charge and it is good to remind myself of this and to have hope and trust in Him each day.

Dear God:

Thank you for Your goodness, love and kindness in my life. I am so grateful You are with me during happy days and also in times of worry and sadness. You are with me always. Help me to find joy and peace in your presence right now.
