Psalms 129:1-4 is a powerful statement of those who have not let their difficulties define them. No matter our early life experience, with the help of God, we can overcome. God can indeed “cut me free from the cords of the wicked.”
“They have greatly oppressed me from my youth,”
let Israel say;
“they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me.
Plowmen have plowed my back
and made their furrows long.
But the Lord is righteous;
he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.”
Dear God, you know the difficulties I have faced, and the obstacles that were seemingly impossible to overcome. The trials and tribulations of my youth have left their scars. But you, O Lord, give me hope, and a new start, and a future secure in your love. May my past not define me, but instead may past difficulty and hurt inspire me to reach out to others, and to reach up to you.
