Daily Reading and Prayer submitted by Hannah Deelstra

Psalm 8
Oh, Lord, how wonderful is your name!
Your glory shines down from heaven;
It is seen everywhere on earth.
The praise of young children
silences your enemies and makes you strong.
When I think about how you made the heavens,
how you placed the moon and stars in the sky,
I wonder how you can care about human beings – we are so small!
Yet you have made us only a little lower than the angels.
You have made us rulers over everything you created:
the birds and the beasts, the fish in the sea.
We rule over all of them.
Oh, Lord, how wonderful is your name!
(The Complete Illustrated Children’s Bible)

Your name is really special to me because it says, “You have made us rulers over everything you have created.”  He could have picked anyone or anything, but he chose us. Us, even though we sin, we hurt, we get angry, he still chose us.  The line, “When I think about how you made the heavens, how you placed the moon and the stars in the sky”, I wonder how you can care about human beings – we are so small!  Makes me wonder why he sacrificed his only son for us when he could keep his only son with him.

Prayer:

Your name is wonderful, just thinking of it reminds me of all you’ve done for us.  You gave us free roam over earth.  You made it for us, you named us the rulers of Earth and so I praise your name.  And yet I wonder why you chose us to rule Earth.  Help me to know and understand your ways O Lord, your name is wonderful. Amen
