Daily Reading and Prayer – Sunday, September 13

One of my favourite passages of Scripture, and the basis of the next 5 Sunday services!

Colossians 3:12-17

As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Prayer

Father, we worship you today, for you are worthy of our worship,

Far more worthy than we can ever hope to know.

You have created all that is;

You have come to us in Jesus Christ, giving yourself for us;

You are with us now through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Give us, we pray, the smallest glimpse of your glory,

That we may cry out to you in worship and in praise,

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might

Heaven and earth are filled with your glory!

Hosanna in the highest!

Father, called to gather in mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience;

We confess we have held grudges, acted coldly, put ourselves before others, and demanded instant gratification.

Called to bear with one another, and forgive one another, and put complaints aside,

We confess we have avoided one another’s company, held on to past wrongs, and complained about the slightest fault.

Called to be known by our love, we have come to be known by our self-interest.

Forgive us our sins, we pray. Forgive us in the name of Jesus Christ, in whose name we are called to forgive one another.

Amen.
