Daily Reading and Prayer – Sunday, August 30

Jude (vss 1,2; 24,25)

Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James,

To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.

To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy – to the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Prayer

Dear God, Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
You have, by the power of the Holy Spirit,
called us together in worship today,
To celebrate your love, and to keep us secure in our faith.
Together, we praise your holy name,
In thanksgiving for the mercy, peace and love
you have showered upon us.

And so in joy, wherever we may be, from wherever we have come,
We pray, we sing, we hear your Holy Word,
And we bring our worship into the world,
That all may know the blessings which come from knowing our Creator,
From following our Saviour, and from the power of New Life
through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
To the only God, our Saviour, be glory, majesty, power and authority,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, now and forevermore.

In the midst of our praise, Father, hear also our confessions.
As we confess, give us not only remorse,
But strength and determination to live better, to be better,
to reflect better your mercy, forgiveness and love to all the world.
May others see in us a reflection of what we see in you
And so find in us a people changed by the power of God,
Pointing the way to your Kingdom life.
Hear our silent confessions, O Lord…

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
We entrust ourselves to God,
who grants to us the gift of forgiveness and new life.
To him who is able to keep you from stumbling
and to present you before his glorious presence
without fault and with great joy – to the only God our Saviour
be glory, majesty, power and authority,
hrough Jesus Christ our Lord, now and forevermore! Amen.
