Daily Reading and Prayer: Monday, July 13

Daily Reading and Prayer submitted by Roberta MacRae.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me – Psalm 51.10.

This Old Testament verse was part of a prayer from King David who was seeking repentance from God. David needed forgiveness for sinfully sleeping with the married woman, Bathsheba. He confessed his actions to God. By praying, David wanted to renew his relationship with God. We all need God’s help, guidance and forgiveness of our sins.

To have a pure heart means that we want God’s gracious gift of salvation. We want to be part of God’s holy kingdom.

To have a steadfast spirit is to stay committed and strong in your faith. You try not to waiver from the truth of God. We are all sinful and waiver but God will forgive us when we confess our sins. We should aim to love God with all our hearts, minds and souls.

Dear heavenly Father, please forgive me of my sins and purify my heart. I need your guidance and protection from my sinful ways every day. Protect me from the evils of this world that distract me from your glory and grace. I desire to be steadfast in my faith and committed to you. Let my life, actions and deeds be pleasing to you.

Your love is infinite. I want to receive your blessings. Through your grace and mercy I will receive forgiveness of my sins. I will receive your gift of eternal life.

Help me to be your child and obedient to your will. May the Holy Spirit give me the strength and willingness to be steadfast. I want to be more like your precious son, Jesus.

Let my focus be on you and not the distractions of this world. I want to serve and honour you. May I have a purified heart and steadfast faith for you.

Thank you Lord for your love and forgiveness. You are my strength and shield.

I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord.
